One of the big hits on the iPhone are the “Talking Blank” apps. There’s Talking Carl (it’s a monster), Talking Tom (he’s a cat) and the latest one for the Christmas season, Talking Santa. You can feed Santa cookies and milk, have him take a present out of his bag or bowl him over with a giant snowball. But, the best part of the talking lines of apps is that the repeat what you say. In the case of Talking Santa, his voice is very low, so whatever you say it gets transformed into Santa’s voice, more or less. I was wrong, THE best part is you can record a video with the above mentioned actions and share it with your friends on Facebook or on YouTube.

NaPodPoMo 2010 #29 – The Penultimate Show of 2010

On this penultimate NaPodPoMo show of 2010, you get another Christmas show. Christmas decorations are still going up and the tree lights are still being replaced. Part of the problem is that these fake trees hurt the fingers and arms. Ouch! It will all be worth it in the end though, right. Tomorrow Dave Moreno will be joining me for a discussion about fathers and fatherhood. At least that’s what we talked about. We’ll see where it goes. Join us then, won’t you. It’s the big kick off show for 2010. No pressure Dave.

NaPodPoMo 2010 #27 – A November Christmas

I stole the name of today’s podcast from a show of the same name on Lifetime or some other cable channel. I saw a commercial for it during the Thanksgiving Day Detroit Lions game. Sam Elliott, looks like a winner. Anyway, I’m back from vacation and back into the show for the last few days of November. Tonight, a Christmas music show inspired by the Christmas music heard on our 13 hour trip from South Lake Tahoe to Long Beach, via Rocklin, CA.

Christmas Parade – The Final Days

Well, despite my desire to post each day of progress of the float, I was too busy putting it together to do that. Oh wells. Here is the float alost complete in my driveway.

Lining up for the parade with the Long Beach Little League float behind us. They were still building the float as they were lining up. I couldn’t do that.

Steven and Jason doing some last minut decorating. Steven played guitar on the float this year, his first time. Jason is our drummer Travis’ brother. He was a life saver helping out before.

Almost done. We put up some silver mylar balloons to get the feeling of bubbles. A few of them had to be moved. Larry, singer and guitar player extraordinaire is there on the back of the float getting the chords all setup.

As soon as the video of the parade is shown and recorded and uploaded to YouTube I’ll post it here.

Christmas Parade – Day 2

Today I picked up the truck and I think I’ll now officially call it a float. Check it out below. Chris Darjany did an great job creating the wave sides. Tonight I pulled out the flat white latex paint and put a couple coats on the waves to create a clean palate to put on the lights and decorations. And yes, it’s now in my driveway until after the parade.

The sides are pretty short. Allison, voilin player extraordinaire, will be teetering on the edge of the float. We’ll have to create some sort of handrail for her to hold onto so she doesn’t fall off.

The Belmont Shore Christmas Parade is coming up on Saturday, December 6, 2008. The parade starts at 6pm. Come and check it out and wave as the float drives by.

Christmas Parade – Day 1

This year is the fourth in a row that my church is entering a float in the Belmont Shore Christmas Parade. The theme is Winter Water Wonderland. Pastor Chris Darjany used his skill on the saw to create the sides of the float. Check them out below.

It’s boing to be a fun time and I’ll document the process here on the blog as we get ready for the pageantry. We’re thinking that an Under the Sea theme will go along with the theme for the parade. We may be wearing some Nemo style fish hats.

Good idea?

Seaweed poles will be next along with painting the waves. Check back tomorrow for an update.

NaPodPoMo Day 12 – Remembering the Kringle Cast

The Kringle Cast was one of those good ideas that wasn’t totally completed. The Kringle Cast was a show where Santa Claus and his New Media elves, Jingle and Jangle Elf would field calls and read e-mails from children. It was started, there’s no doubt about that, but it wasn’t seen to it’s end and that has always bugged me.

Either way, I love the idea and I think that I nailed the voices and tech to make the show sound good. The show probably needed to be more if not completely scripted.

I think the Kringle Cast will have to make a re-appearance this year as a podsafe Christmas show hosted by the trio of Holiday characters. Another $10 to GoDaddy for another year.

We’ll have to see.
