A while back, I asked for opinions on a couple important topics. #1, Which 80′s Heather did you find most attractive? This one will have to go unresolved. It is probably more accurate to say 50% of you are wrong!

Poll #2 asked your opinions on Van Halen lead singers. I thought I could guess the outcome, but I was indeed wrong. The power of Diamond Dave winning as the best front man for Van Halen was obvious. But, I did not see Sammy Hagar only garnering 53% of the vote for Best Music by Van Halen during his tenure as lead singer. That one shocks me.

As part of my latest endeavor going from the couch to running a 5k race I’m using one of the many podcasts that are available on the subject. Most of these podcasts are based on the Couch to 5K running program from Coolrunning.com.

I think the first one that I heard of, and still extremely popular, is Podcasts for Running by Robert Ullrey. This was the podcast that I used previously on my last effort to start running. I blamed my failure on the aggressiveness of this podcast when it was probably my weight along with my poor running technique that caused my knee injury and dropping the running. These podcasts were produced in 2006 and are truly timeless.

This time I am expanding my musical horizons with Suz’s Couch to 5K program. She was inspired by Podcasts for Running and uses the same program. Instead of the wordless techno of the Ullrey podcasts, Suz uses hip-hop and 80′s music. I’ve completed week 1 and just did the first week 2 run and I learned a couple things on week 2. Kanye West shared “Now I ain’t sayin’ she a gold digger, but she ain’t messin’ wit no broke niggaz.” and I learned via The Black Eyed Peas that I need to “get retarded”. Very enlightening.

Another popular version was created by DJ Steve Boyett over at Podrunner.com. He calls his First Day to 5K and it’s part of his Podrunner Intervals series. There are also two follow up programs called Gateway to 8K and Freeway to 10K. Unlike the previous two, the Podrunner podcasts don’t contain any voices. The cues are ascending and descending tones to let you know when to kick it up or slow it down. As Steve explained, this was to make the podcasts compatible with non-English speaking countries. Good idea.

One last one that just came to my attention is being produced right now at Runningmatemedia.com. When I first tweeted about starting my C25K program again, I received a reply to check it out. I have not listened to these completely yet, and will definitely do so in trying to mix up my running. These are currently being produced and can be found over at Podomatic.

That’s it for now.

Another great list of 80′s songs. This time it’s strictly from 1987. I had “graduated” from Jefferson Junior High School and was starting out as a sophomore at Wilson High School. I have to admit, the list I pulled from had a ton of songs that I didn’t even remember. This list contains my favorites for 1987, no Janet Jackson or Prince. They were on the larger list, but I never did like those particular songs. Make your own playlist if you don’t agree. I’m having a blast making these.
