NaPodPoMo Day #2 – Embrace the Awkward

My friend John Winn died this last week.  I’ve been thinking about that and had a few things to say on this second day of The 30 Day Podcast Experiment during NaPodPoMo.

Do yourself a favor and make sure that the regrets you have aren’t ones of inaction. Embrace the awkward moments in life instead. Stories of awkward make for great stories when/if you get old. No one wants to hear about your almost talking to a supermodel at the bar.  Not to be cliché, but make your time count.  Call you mother, she’s wondering about you.  Reach out to that old friend that you haven’t seen in a while.  You can do nothing anytime.

You’re Tying Your Shoes Wrong

Say goodbye to double knots.

If anyone ever asks you “What’s so cool about the Internet?” here’s your answer.  It’s shit like tying your shoes that you think you mastered when you were six, that you’d spend your whole life doing wrong, but because some random dude that you’d never meet in real life wanted to share, you’re better for it.

What you missed at the VFW on Saturday night

My new band had its first gig at the VFW in Redondo Beach on Saturday night.  If you didn’t make it out, and that was you, here’s a sample of what you missed.

Plus drinks were like $2 all night.

Patrice Lawsson – Vocals
Fred Rawling – Guitar, vocals
Steve McAndrew – Vocals, keys, guitar
Sean Isom – Drums
Russ Turley  – Bass

The Unicorn Song

On the upcoming episode my podcast, Homemade Is Best, that I do with Helana Brigman we somehow got onto the topic of unicorns.  We got there via vampires if I remember right and it ended with me saying that I’d get sauced and record the unicorn song and post it on the end of the show.

Well, last night was the night.  It is at the end of the episode for the listeners of that podcast.  But what the hell, here is the song.  No saucing necessary.  All it took was about 20 minutes and some Garageband on the Mac.

First off, I don’t sing, can’t sing, but sang anyway.  The first time I heard this song was from Laurie’s uncle Rob.  He does a much better job of it than I ever could.

Senseless Banter #9 – Spoof Movies

What new fall TV shows are you watching or getting excited for? Brad has his list and it’s our first topic of discussion.

We then discuss the genre of the Spoof/parody movie.  In particular we watched Scary Movie 3 with tiger blood himself, Charlie Sheen and Anna Faris.  Obvious the big movie in this genre is Airplane, so it’s the stick that all the others are compared to.

“I am serious…and don’t call me Shirley.”
