NaPodPoMo 2010 #4 – Stabbed in the Ear

So today I was called away from work to take one of my 6 year-old sons to the doctor. It seems that a kid at his school decided it would be a wise idea to stick a sucker stick into his ear. The pediatrician and an ENT doctor both said he has a punctured ear drum. But, it does have a blood clot over it so there is a good chance that nothing will have to be done about it other than let it heal. I decided to get Nate, the afore mentioned kid, on the show and get his story.

We also played a song at the end of the show. I don’t play a lot of music in the car for the kids, but when I do the odds on favorite is from the album Goodbye Planet Earth by Matthew Ebel. Now this song is not a “podsafe” track, but it is Nate’s favorite song and he asked for it this afternoon on the way home from the doctor. So, Matthew Ebel, if you read or hear this, we play it because it’s Nate’s favorite song and we love your stuff. Today on Day 8 of my NaPodPoMo experience my 4 1/2 year old and I talk about our trip to the Backyardigans Live. It’s a Turley Family Podast version of the show. Every once in a while I throw the kids in front of the microphone and get their opinion on something we did. This time on a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being best, Nathan scores the Backyardigans Live, a trophy. You can’t write this stuff.

Early Artistic Talent

On Sunday, the family and I took my 92 year old grandmother out for lunch. While at lunch, she pulled out a small envelope. Enclosed in that envelope was a hand drawn picture on it. To my surprise, it was a drawing that I made when she married her second husband, Albert, on 12/31/1979. I was all of 8 years old at the time.

Turley Scooter Show

So the kids had a bee in their bonnet, or was it helmet, about making a scooter ramp this weekend. The height they described was about knee height. Suicidal height for a 4 year old that’s been scootering on two wheels since Christmas. It turns out their ideas were bigger than their ability, but they still loved riding the ramp. The eldest son sits down to record some Turley Family Podcast goodness. Holy crap! He’s hearing and seeing some adult stuff at that elementary school of his. In this one he tells us the story of Austin and Zoey sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g. Good stuff, including wrapping tongues.

I saw that Leo Laporte posted a video on Facebook that was sort of a slideshow, but it had music and the images popped around the screen changing sizes and shapes. It was crazy, more of a movie than a slideshow. The site that creates the movies is Animoto. I created this little video of the kids 4th Birthday party to check it out.

It’s kind of like slideshows for those with ADD.
